Oceanographic Research Institute

Co-Exist is supporting the research of the movement ecology of sharks associated with the Sardine Run in South Africa.

We’re excited to announce our new partnership with The Oceanographic Research Institute.

The project involves the tagging of sharks South Africa which has helped researchers to track the shark’s movements. Using the data collected on the sharks movements helps to highlight important areas for the sharks and help to improve protection for them.

Co-Exist are really excited to work alongside their research to aid in the conservation and protection of these incredible ocean creatures.

How the support from Co-Exist will be used.

Support from Co-Exist has gone towards helping to conducting the valuable research of the magnificent Dusky, Blacktip and Spinner sharks associated with the sardine run in South Africa.

Our support will also help in the research of fish and marine protected areas, focussed on tracking threatened sharks along the South African and Mozambican coast line

Support has also aided in the conservation of sharks in the South African and Mozambican coast line. Using the data collected on the sharks movements has been able to highlight important areas for the sharks and help to improve protection for them.

All of the valuable work that the team at The Oceanographic Research Institute does takes time, people and resources; all of which the support from Co-Exist helps to sustain.
