Manta Trust

Co-Exist are supporting Oceanic Manta Ray research with their partner
organization, The Manta Trust.

We're excited to be able to support the Manta Trust to help them conduct research on the oceanic manta rays in the Maldives.

Oceanic manta rays were recently uplisted to endangered on the IUCN Red List largely due to the continued threats from fisheries. We're excited to support continued research in the Maldives on this endangered species.

The Manta Trust, despite being a relatively small charity, have a strong, proven track record for conservation success and are well regarded in the research and marine conservation field.

Manta Rays are under increasing threat from fisheries, unsustainable tourism and the climate crisis and we're proud to help the Manta Trust turn the tide for them.

How the support from Co-Exist will be used.

The donation will be used by the Manta Trust to cover costs of hiring a research boat in Fuvahmulah Atoll in the Maldives.

This will allow the research team to access the field to conduct surveys and collect photo IDs of an endangered population of oceanic manta rays.

This unique site is the focal point of the Manta Trust's oceanic manta research project and team will now be able to continue to survey for oceanic manta rays around Fuvahmulah during the 2022 season.
